Ballets Jazz Montreal Philadelphia Theatre reviews
Nice concert, could have been better
"I hadn't been to a concert with a 'big name' in over 20 years. The big venues such as the showroom at GSR lack the intimacy of the places that I'm accustomed to. I usually attend dozens of local concerts each year in Reno and Carson City, where I can usually sit within 20 feet of the musicians. Also, I enjoy traditional arrangements of Jazz favorites, and sometimes artists work too hard trying to be unique. No one can arrange a Frank Sinatra song better than his arranger, so changing perfection falls flat. Although the musicians performed musically very well, the arrangements were not to my liking, and in some cases, it took 30-60 seconds to even identify the song. Another issue that always annoys me is when the performer mumbles into the mic and rattles off the names of the band members so rapidly that you can't hear them after the first one, and sometimes the last one. So, despite enjoying the concert overall, I probably wouldn't pay to see Ballets Jazz Montreal again. Local musicians in Reno are so good that I go to their performances literally dozens of times over the years."
